So if Many Hands Make is a virtual office why do you need to be based in Market Harborough?

A question put to me last week……………

So if Many Hands Make is a virtual office why do you need to be based in Market Harborough?

Short answer……….

We don’t – but we like it

This week we’re loving being in Market Harborough and want to highlight the virtues of other local Market Harborough businesses as well as our own. A virtual office can be anywhere (and we do work remotely when necessity demands) but we do like being part of the Market Harborough business community. Last week’s night out with Market Harborough Business Club started with some great tapas at Toro Latino in Abbey Street and was followed by a few drinks at various local hostelries. In the early hours I wandered back to the Angel Hotel where bed and breakfast is excellent value for money and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Many Hands Make …. your virtual office is based in Barking House, Farndon Road close to Farndon Fields farm shop which incidentally is another Market Harborough business worth visiting. Not only do they sell good, fresh produce sourced locally where possible together with mouth-watering frozen prepared foods but they also have plants and a café serving freshly cooked food from produce sold in the shop. Very tempting indeed and Many Hands Make treat themselves to the odd virtual lunch there.

Neighbours in Barking House include Mannix Security who keep Market Harborough safe and Acousticar who provide all kinds of cool electrical vehicle accessories for private customers and businesses. As are all the other local businesses mentioned they are staffed by friendly, helpful and sociable people. In the town centre I can recommend T J Thornton jewellers for the friendliest and most helpful service in Market Harborough whatever the transaction. Out of town at Foxton Locks Bridge 61 is another favourite where you can watch the boats or hire one – check the website Foxton Boat Services.

Back here in your virtual office based in Market Harborough Many Hands Make provide holiday cover because we want your business to succeed too. With people now returning from and embarking on holidays depending on whether they have children or not think about your next holiday– call Many Hands Make and let us know how we can help you keep your business running when you are away. This cover can be arranged for the odd day here or there – or for longer spells if you are away on business or holiday.

In your Market Harborough based virtual office Many Hands Make recent projects have included typing a business plan, preparing a powerpoint presentation and extra order fulfilment for holiday cover. Other ongoing work includes bookkeeping on Sage and spreadsheets; weekly fortnightly, four weekly and monthly payrolls; preparation of VAT returns and other submissions to HMRC; company formations and ongoing submissions to Companies House; event planning and organisation and diary management.

Also worth another mention is the launch of a local Market Harborough based website www.harboroughclassifieds.co.uk as advertised on your local radio station Harborough FM– give it a try and if you start a business as a result remember who to call – Many Hands Make… your virtual office based in Market Harborough.

As the end of the month approaches Many Hands Make are running payrolls for clients. Because it’s the holiday season some payrolls have been prepared in advance and others will be last minute as the guy holding the purse-strings returns from holiday. Either way your virtual office based in Market Harborough is willing and able to help.

Some local business people are taking advantage of the holiday season, and consumers taking time out to ask for quotations by promoting new businesses, new ventures in existing businesses and getting their name around. Many Hands Make’s typing and secretarial services have been handy for some – we have typed flyers, promotional letters for a mailshot, quotations, a chapter of a local history book, invoices and a business plan in the last week alone.

Variety is the spice of life in your Market Harborough based virtual office Many Hands Make. Apart from topics mentioned other ongoing projects include bookkeeping (as always) on Sage and spreadsheets; weekly fortnightly, four weekly and monthly payrolls; preparation of VAT returns and other submissions to HMRC; company formations and ongoing submissions to Companies House; event planning and organisation and diary management – phew!

Also worth a mention is the launch of a local Market Harborough based website www.harboroughclassifieds.co.uk – give it a try and if you start a business as a result remember who to call – Many Hands Make… your virtual office based in Market Harborough.

to tweet or not to tweet – quite a big question ….

I saw a really good re-tweet (RT) the other day:-

Social media is like teen sex, everyone wants to do it. No one actually knows how. When done, they’re surprised it’s not better @avinash

If you don’t know the terminology, recognise the syntax or know what I’m rattling on about, you don’t use Twitter. But that’s not true now - tweets transverse different platforms so people may not even know they’re tweeting – so a bit of a cheat tweet? And this is a blog … so is it a bleat?

Anyway I think it’s all good in moderation. It’s a talking point so anything that brings your name or the name of the business to the fore can only be good – e.g. “I saw Many Hands Make tweeted about tweets the other day, I may ask them about typing my c.v.”

Our virtual office here in Market Harborough was disrupted last week when Rachel received a phone call informing her that her son Mathew may have broken his arm. Well he had indeed broken two bones on his arm so two days in hospital, an operation to insert metal rods and pins and his mum’s nervous breakdown later – here is the famous Metal Mathew – proudly displaying his cast – looks OK now! Thanks for all your messages.

Time flies by ….

MHM emoticon Is it two weeks since I reported the stunning success of Many Hands Make – your virtual office in completing our 10km walk and boosting our fundraising total for the Race for Life? We are STILL chasing elusive sponsors (you know who you are) so the total may still rise! See our Cancer Research UK page for the latest total and to donate – or drop your loose change in a collection box here at Barking House on the green mile (Farndon Road).

We have again had a busy couple of weeks in and out of our virtual office – doing what we do at Many Hands Make – which is - dealing with client’s VAT returns, payrolls, book-keeping on Sage and spreadsheets on the accounting side; organising an exhibition and a charity cycle ride, despatching goods and taking minutes at an AGM on the admin side of the business.

We had days booked out at client’s premises and researching venues and hoped to catch a few rays in the process. WRONG! I went to King’s Lynn to a client – it rained all day. Rachel went to Doncaster to look at a venue, surprisingly weather OK there but rained on the way back. On Tuesday I went to Foxton – it was lovely, picturesque, tranquil, cygnets on the canal, I love it. Weather – dull, muggy, overcast – ah well you can’t have everything.

Andrew Seaward of To Market ‘s presentation at the Market Harborough Business Club on Sales Techniques for Small Businesses may now be viewed on MHBC website. Check it out for some free tips on selling.

We have been looking forward to the launch of a new website for classified ads in Market Harborough and it’s all ready now – so follow the link http://harboroughclassifieds.co.uk/ to advertise either your business or to sell goods – all for an extremely reasonable price.

Here in Barking House we all love DJ Alan Savill and his stints on Harborough FM so tune to 102.3 on Friday 6th August between 1.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. for a rare daytime audio treat.

Mystery in MH this week – who stole Barclays Bank (and why)? Any enlightenment out there?

In MH town centre a beach has appeared – children’s paradise – shame about the weather.

STOP PRESS from Mannix Security for unparalleled security and reliability – keep hold of your Apple Mac’s – enough said!!

We have had a busy couple of weeks in our virtual office – doing what we do at Many Hands Make – which is - dealing with client’s VAT returns, payrolls, running a Sage year end at a client’s premises and book-keeping on Sage and spreadsheets on the accounting side; researching and booking venues for conference and dinner, despatching goods and taking minutes at an AGM on the admin side of the business. With more days booked out at client’s premises and researching venues next week we are hoping to catch a few rays in the process.

Pat thoroughly enjoyed a presentation by Andrew Seaward of To Market at the Market Harborough Business Club. The topic was Sales Techniques for Small Businesses and was very entertaining and informative – for more information check out the MHBC website.

Coffee morning (should be called chocolate morning) ….

The Many Hands Make charity coffee morning featuring chocolate fondue fountain (as snapped below) was well attended and boosted our fundraising for the Race for Life. We have passed our target of £1000 and the total is still rising - excellent- see our Cancer Research UK page for the latest total and to sponsor us – or complete one of our sponsorship forms here at Barking House on the green mile (Farndon Road) or at the Swimgym on the Riverside Industrial Estate - Market Harborough

This week has been quiet in one way but eventful in others. A drunk driver crashed into Rachel’s husband’s parked car on Sunday evening probably writing it off so not a good week for the Jarvis family.

Many Hands Make have spent the week keeping their heads down and dealing with client’s VAT returns, payrolls and book-keeping on the accounting side; researching venues for conference and dinner, despatching goods and preparing for an AGM on the admin side of the business.

I’ve got a feeling - this week’s going to be a good week….

  • Chairman of Market Harborough Business Club and friend of Many Hands Make, Steve Castledine, was interviewed on Harborough FM. We tried to record his promotion of MHBC but guess what – BT Business Broadband dropped out half way though the interview - aaaahhhh. The funniest thing was me trying to tune the radio to Harborough FM in a scramble. Harborough FM have kindly promised a recording.
  • I foolishly made an appointment to order new varifocal sunglasses – heralding the advent of driving rain. Sorry everyone.
  • Otherwise in the virtual world of Many Hands Make we’ve had some new enquiries – an encouraging sign! We continue to try and make good use of social media.
  • Rachel has almost finished entering data to build a customer database for a client which will hopefully win repeat and new business for them
  • Pat has run weekly payrolls and will be advising all payroll customers of payments due to HMRC this month
  • Management accounts for May for various customers are in progress
  • Many Hands Make are in training so we’re trying to go for a walk every day before lunch – so if you call us please leave a message because that’s what voicemail is for. Mobiles will be answered possibly with huffing and puffing!
  • Many Hands Make’s fundraising for the Race for Life has topped £900 - see our Cancer Research UK page for the latest total and to sponsor us – or complete one of our sponsorship forms here at Barking House on the green mile (Farndon Road) or at the Swimgym on the Riverside Industrial Estate - Market Harborough

I predict a riot .. and it’s scary

Headline news – Rachel has gained a Chocolate Fondue Fountain and the riot predicted may take place at the Many Hands Make coffee morning on 25th June, proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.

Otherwise in the virtual world of Many Hands Make it’s been an odd couple of weeks.

  • Rachel and family hit Kefalonia for a week avoiding plague, pestilence, strikes and volcanic ash thereby reducing the Many Hands available in our virtual office
  • The manufacturer of a product despatched by Many Hands Make on behalf of a client decided to change the name, pack size and quantity of the product without warning (they’re German hopefully we’ll get our revenge). This lead to a mailshot containing product information and luckily Many Hands Make – your virtual office promote mailshots as one of their services.
  • Pat and Rachel have both attended local networking events here in Market Harborough, made new contacts, had a good laugh, and hopefully gained another payroll client
  • Rachel has started entering data to build a customer database for a client which will hopefully win repeat and new business for them
  • Pat has run fifteen payrolls, some monthly, some weekly and a couple of four-weekly
  • Google Analytics show that Many Hands Make – your virtual office use of social networks has increased hits on our website
  • The cinema project in Market Harborough has been successful – well done guys
  • Many Hands Make’s fundraising for the Race for Life continues - see our Cancer Research UK page for the latest total – or complete one of our sponsorship forms here at Barking House on the green mile (Farndon Road) or at the Swimgym on the Riverside Industrial Estate - Market Harborough
