We have had a busy couple of weeks in our virtual office – doing what we do at Many Hands Make – which is - dealing with client’s VAT returns, payrolls, running a Sage year end at a client’s premises and book-keeping on Sage and spreadsheets on the accounting side; researching and booking venues for conference and dinner, despatching goods and taking minutes at an AGM on the admin side of the business. With more days booked out at client’s premises and researching venues next week we are hoping to catch a few rays in the process.

Pat thoroughly enjoyed a presentation by Andrew Seaward of To Market at the Market Harborough Business Club. The topic was Sales Techniques for Small Businesses and was very entertaining and informative – for more information check out the MHBC website.

Coffee morning (should be called chocolate morning) ….

The Many Hands Make charity coffee morning featuring chocolate fondue fountain (as snapped below) was well attended and boosted our fundraising for the Race for Life. We have passed our target of £1000 and the total is still rising - excellent- see our Cancer Research UK page for the latest total and to sponsor us – or complete one of our sponsorship forms here at Barking House on the green mile (Farndon Road) or at the Swimgym on the Riverside Industrial Estate - Market Harborough

This week has been quiet in one way but eventful in others. A drunk driver crashed into Rachel’s husband’s parked car on Sunday evening probably writing it off so not a good week for the Jarvis family.

Many Hands Make have spent the week keeping their heads down and dealing with client’s VAT returns, payrolls and book-keeping on the accounting side; researching venues for conference and dinner, despatching goods and preparing for an AGM on the admin side of the business.

Photography killed the radio star ….

  • Friend of Many Hands Make the famous Brian Davies of Mad Photography was on the radio station Heart Northants. We didn’t get the opportunity to listen to it, and details are sketchy but reading their breakfast prog blog reveals that Brian is a Speedo wearer and it was all about fashion! Brian offers the full range of photographic services and studio facilities at MAD Photography, home of the Speedo.
  • Case of the missing crumpet – Many Hands Make eat breakfast here at Barking House – Pat swims first thing in the morning at Swimgym and Rachel sorts out the rest of the Jarvis household. This week we went to the cupboard but one of our crumpets was missing. HELP! Good job Mannix Security are in the building…. or is it? Watch this space as investigations continue by Tracey from our neighbours Acousticar. Just goes to show Steve was right – no crumpet in Barking House.
  • Many Hands Make are still in training so we’re trying to go for a walk every day before lunch – so if you call us please leave a message because that’s what voicemail is for. Walks this week have taken in East Farndon where we saw some gorgeous calves and Lubenham Hill where we saw a strange man lying on a grass verge.
  • Got to mention it again - Many Hands Make’s fundraising for the Race for Life has passed our target of £1000 and still rising - excellent- see our Cancer Research UK page for the latest total and to sponsor us – or complete one of our sponsorship forms here at Barking House on the green mile (Farndon Road) or at the Swimgym on the Riverside Industrial Estate - Market Harborough
  • You may have heard that England won a match yesterday! I remember the 1966 World Cup and our brand new colour TV from Radio Rentals that broke the day before the final. Dad stayed on the phone till they replaced it (no hold muzak in those days, colour TV’s were new and no-one owned a TV they were all rented)
  • The chocolate fondue fountain allegedly sourced for the Many Hands Make charity coffee morning TOMORROW 25th June has been fully tested and we hope someone will turn up and help Rachel use it!

Madness, madness ….

clip_image001 One of Many Hands Make’s clients asked if we knew a good photographer and we had no hesitation in putting forward Mad Photography who cover Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and surrounding areas to do a shoot at Pitsford. Brian, the main MAD man, is a true professional and, with studio facilities as well, MAD Photography offer the full range of photographic services.

clip_image001[1] Following Pat’s presentation (she bored them with admin) Market Harborough Business Club are looking for guest presenters for their Friday breakfast meetings – any willing volunteers contact pat@manyhandsmake.co.uk or steve@mckenzie-thorpe.com

clip_image001[2] Pat had a day out in KL – no not Kuala Lumpur but King’s Lynn! Nice change, beautiful English countryside.

clip_image001[3] Rachel attended a meeting with clients at the Angel Hotel, Market Harborough, took minutes, and had further discussion regarding an exhibition she is planning

clip_image001[4] Tracey from our neighbours Acousticar specialists in the supply and fitting of a wide range of products and services for all vehicles including audio, alarms, immobilizers, hands free car kits, trackers, reversing /parking aids, window tinting, navigation systems and much more became a great aunt!!

I’ve got a feeling - this week’s going to be a good week….

  • Chairman of Market Harborough Business Club and friend of Many Hands Make, Steve Castledine, was interviewed on Harborough FM. We tried to record his promotion of MHBC but guess what – BT Business Broadband dropped out half way though the interview - aaaahhhh. The funniest thing was me trying to tune the radio to Harborough FM in a scramble. Harborough FM have kindly promised a recording.
  • I foolishly made an appointment to order new varifocal sunglasses – heralding the advent of driving rain. Sorry everyone.
  • Otherwise in the virtual world of Many Hands Make we’ve had some new enquiries – an encouraging sign! We continue to try and make good use of social media.
  • Rachel has almost finished entering data to build a customer database for a client which will hopefully win repeat and new business for them
  • Pat has run weekly payrolls and will be advising all payroll customers of payments due to HMRC this month
  • Management accounts for May for various customers are in progress
  • Many Hands Make are in training so we’re trying to go for a walk every day before lunch – so if you call us please leave a message because that’s what voicemail is for. Mobiles will be answered possibly with huffing and puffing!
  • Many Hands Make’s fundraising for the Race for Life has topped £900 - see our Cancer Research UK page for the latest total and to sponsor us – or complete one of our sponsorship forms here at Barking House on the green mile (Farndon Road) or at the Swimgym on the Riverside Industrial Estate - Market Harborough

Race for Life 2010

race1 race2

On 10th July 2010 Pat and Rachel from Many Hands Make, your virtual office and Rachel’s 13 year old daughter Samantha  are walking 10 kilometres (yes 10!) in the Race for Life in memory of our dads, Derek Bradley and Ken Duncombe, who we lost last year to cancer and to raise funds for Cancer Research UK to help all those still fighting the disease. We are asking all our friends, clients and favourite people  for sponsorship. We would be so grateful for any amount, no matter how little, and ask that you follow this link to our fundraising page:-

Pat and Rachel

Introducing our virtual office imp

Many Hands Make have gained more hands, two to be precise, belonging to Verity our virtual office imp. Verity reveals herself when she gets bored, just to cause a bit of mischief and keep Pat and Rachel on their toes.

This week went along normally – Pat preparing management accounts, Rachel out on Tuesday minuting a meeting then on Wednesday starting a database cleansing project at a client’s premises. Verity thought that was too quiet, so on Thursday when Pat and Rachel went to visit Mike and Paul at MP Accountants she caused the navigator to miss Lamport Manor entirely and they drove to  Old before turning back. Not too much disruption as coffee was still available. Although Many Hands Make….. your virtual office and MP Accountants (clients are people not commodities) have no clients in common they like to keep in touch and share local information and events.

So on Friday, with the prospect of spending all day alone with Pat while Rachel continued her database project, Verity the virtual office imp interfered with the Market Harborough Business Club breakfast meeting. The meeting started promptly in a businesslike fashion but then Verity the virtual office imp interacted with Fergus the MAD Photography fairy and wham bam alakazam it degenerated into laughing, joking, sideswiping FUN! It was so good we all undertook to meet again next Friday.

So another week over in Many Hands Make… your virtual office. Verity has not yet reappeared so no doubt the virtual office imp is plotting something for next week.
