Volume Press
Volume Press is an audio zine project by Many Hands Make and Kate Cameron. It aims to create a space for experimental artists working with sound and recording to showcase their work.
What is an audio zine?
It's just like a regular zine, but instead of paper and ink, we are publishing audio works. To be published quarterly, the debut edition of Volume Press will be an anthology of work by independent and experimental artists curated into an album by MHM and Kate and released online and as CDs this October.
Artists working with sound (musicians, recordists, poets, etc.) have been invited to submit their work for online and physical CD publication in a track list curated by the production team.
The tracks will be published on Bandcamp and will be accessible in full for the price of a coffee through our social media links. We will also have CDs available to purchase at the launch event and other MHM events throughout the year. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a flyer or QR code in the wild at your local with a direct link to the album.
● Our Story
Why are we doing this?
We’ve noticed a gap in the market: one that overlooks the unrepresented musicians, the experimental recordists, the poets off the page, and we want to help fill it in. First and foremost, Volume Press is a platform for championing artists making work off the beaten path. In an industry riddled with open mic nights and singing competitions, having a space to publish your compositions, experiments, collaborations, and wacky sound ideas is an invaluable resource. It means reaching new audiences, making new contacts, and being inspired by other artists revolutionising how and what gets streamed through your headphones.
Each edition will be accompanied by an in-person launch event and listening party, with tickets available to purchase through the MHM website.
Hunting a new fave local musician? Looking for new beats to study to? Searching for an emerging talent to collab with? Volume Press is here for you.
